The Reserve offers a variety of education programs for school groups, the public, special interest groups, and teachers. Programs highlight salt marsh (estuarine) and barrier island ecology, nongame and endangered species, current research efforts on the reserve, and Sapelo’s rich cultural history.
Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR) is on a barrier island on Georgia’s coast. Explore our programs and plan your visit to this unique destination.
The Sapelo Island Visitors Center is located on the mainland, next to the ferry dock in Meridian, GA. It serves as a key distribution point for information about educational opportunities and tourism activities – such as public and group tours on Sapelo Island – and how coastal ecosystems link to research and monitoring within the Reserve.
The Reserve’s Education Lab on Sapelo Island houses a 40-seat classroom with audio-visual capabilities as well as a wet lab equipped with work stations, microscopes, stereoscopes, and aquariums.
